No. 3 Boston University and Northeastern square off for the 2024 Beanpot title on Monday evening at TD Garden.
The Terriers knocked out No. 1 Boston College in the semifinals last Sunday, exacting revenge after an Eagles’ sweep at the end of January. BU (19-7-1) took the semifinal, 4-3, behind two early goals from standout freshman Macklin Celebrini, who leads the team in points (41) and goals (22).
Northeastern, meanwhile, is set to defend its crown after winning the Beanpot in 2023. The Huskies (12-12-2) outlasted Harvard in the semifinal, notching a dramatic 3-2 overtime victory as Gunnarwolfe Fontaine netted the game-winner 33 seconds into the extra period.
This will mark the third meeting between the two teams this season. BU earned a 4-3 overtime win on Jan. 9, while Northeastern won in overtime by the same score on Jan. 30. If that’s any indication, then the title game of the 71st Beanpot should be a thriller.
The two schools have also clashed in two of the last three Beanpot title matches. The Terriers took home the crown with a 1-0 shootout win in 2022; in 2020, the Huskies won a 5-4 double overtime classic.
