Subriel Matias will put his IBF super lightweight world title on the line against unbeaten Australian Liam Paro in Puerto Rico on June 15.

With 20 knockout victories in 21 professional fights, Matias has developed a reputation as one of the sport’s most devastating finishers.

The 31-year-old Puerto Rican will now get the chance to defend his belt in front of his adoring home fans at the Coliseo Juan Aubin Cruz Abreu against the crafty Queenslander.

Paro, 27, is perfect through 24 fights and most recently scored an eye-catching knockout victory over Montana Love in September.

The southpaw has previously been rated the number one contender with the WBO and is currently sixth in the IBF rankings at 140-pounds.

Both fighters are promoted by Matchroom Boxing and the bout will be broadcast live globally on DAZN.

“I’ve waited my whole life for this opportunity,” Paro said.

“Fighter’s fight and I can’t wait to fight the boogeyman in his backyard.”

Matchroom boss Eddie Hearn spoke of his excitement at putting on a fight for the champ in Puerto Rico.

“I am so excited to be bringing Subriel back home for his second world title defense,” said Hearn.

“It’s an honor for Matchroom to be heading to Puerto Rico for the first time and there’s no doubt that Subriel and Liam will produce an epic battle to mark the occasion.”
