Young 76ers guard shows his respect for Guerschon Yabusele

The Philadelphia 76ers will certainly feel the loss of Guerschon Yabusele next season.

Yabusele signed a two-year, $11.7 million deal with the Knicks after enjoying the best season of his career with the 76ers in 2024-25. He averaged 11.0 points and 5.6 rebounds per game, shooting 50 percent from the floor and 38 percent from beyond the arc.

In a recent interview with 76ers on SI’s Declan Harris, Jared McCain described the feeling of losing Yabusele.

“Man, I’m gonna miss him, that’s one of the best people I’ve ever been around,” McCain said of Yabusele. “I could go to him for anything; a lot of my teammates are like that, but him, I gravitated to a lot. He was just super nice, just a good person and fun to play with, also another great energy person, so I’m sad to see him go.”

McCain’s strong rookie season was cut short due to a meniscus tear

Yabusele likely played a factor in McCain’s successful rookie season. Prior to suffering a torn meniscus that cut his season short, McCain was averaging 15.3 points per game, while shooting 46 percent from the field, and 38 percent from three-point range. He’ll look to build off of that big rookie season in 2025-26.

Despite the loss of Yabusele, the 76ers should be in the mix for a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference next season as long as their core of Joel Embiid, Paul George, Tyrese Maxey, and McCain are able to stay healthy.
