Yankees’ Trent Grisham behind only Juan Soto in impressive 2025 MLB stat

Certain players on the Yankees came into the 2025 season with high expectations placed on them.

No matter what you think you’ll get from a collective unit, there’s always going to be some sort of curveball with a roster, and some players might not live up to the standards placed on them.

That’s when role players have the chance to step up and make a name for themselves.

This is exactly what one Yankee has done in 2025, helping the Yankees pick up some crucial wins this season.

Trent Grisham’s career year indicated through this 2025 stat

The Yankees originally acquired Trent Grisham in the trade that sent Juan Soto to the Yankees.

That turned out to be just a one-year rental, as Soto ended up signing with the Mets this past offseason.

What went under the radar was what Grisham would do this season with the Yankees and Soto left.

Throughout the season, Grisham has slowly become more clutch and has absorbed a much more important role with the team.

In his seventh year in the MLB, he has already set several career high marks.

His 30 home runs so far clear his previous best of 17 back in 2022.

He’s registered 64 RBIs this season, beating a previous best of 62 in the 2021 season.

Regarding hits, this season he has 107, which is 5 short of his season best, but he’ll likely reach that mark before the season ends.

During Sunday night’s game between the Yankees and the Red Sox, they showed a graphic about Grisham (via Sunday Night Baseball on ESPN).

The graphic showed the MLB leaders for the lowest chase % players.

Grisham has the second-lowest % in the MLB, ironically just behind Juan Soto, his former teammate.

This stat doesn’t paint the entire picture, but there are other stats to back up the huge season Grisham has had, and this stat shows how he is one of the smarter players in the MLB when it comes to processing pitches being thrown.

Grisham was practically viewed as a ‘throw-in’ for when the Yankees acquired him in the Soto trade. That turned out to be far from true, as he’s given the Yankees great value during his tenure in the Big Apple.

Grisham’s productive season could earn him a long-term/lucrative contract, as he’s set to become a free agent this upcoming offseason.
