The New York Yankees have started to play better baseball as of late. Following a six-game losing streak, they have won four in a row and even pulled off a six-run comeback on Thursday.
Still, they have some needs to address at the trade deadline. Their starting rotation has been hit hard by injuries, and they don’t have a clear solution at third base.
New York wants to keep Jazz Chisholm Jr. at second base, which is difficult now that D.J. LeMahieu has been released. But there will be some options available.
Mike Axisa of CBS Sports proposed Colorado Rockies third baseman Ryan McMahon as a possible solution.
“There is very little chance McMahon, who turns 31 in December, will be part of the next contending Rockies team,” Axisa wrote.
“I don’t know if the Rockies will listen to offers for McMahon, though I would expect the Yankees to at least call.”

The Yankees could benefit from having McMahon in their lineup. He is a left-handed hitter who could take advantage of the short porch in right field.
The 30-year-old former All-Star is struggling this season, slashing .208/.307/.368 with 12 home runs, 26 RBI and a .675 OPS. He also is used to hitting at Coors Field, so taking him away from that environment could affect him.
Still, Yankee Stadium’s dimensions are hitter-friendly, and perhaps a change of scenery could help him. Colorado is obviously well out of postseason contention, while the Yankees are starting to heat up and need a bat to catch the Toronto Blue Jays in the American League East.
It will be interesting to see where the Yankees land in their search for a third baseman.
