The New York Yankees still have pitching injury woes.
A franchise legend’s son wants them to trade for Paul Skenes to solve the problems.
Gary Sheffield Jr. wrote this on X on Tuesday: “I actually would love the idea of the Yankees calling Pittsburgh for Paul Skenes…this year.”

There are a couple layers to unpack there.
First, the idea of getting Skenes to the Bronx at all is a massive thought.
He started the All-Star Game as a rookie and is probably considered the most gifted, talented and even consistent right-hander in MLB.
Sheffield Jr. also wants Skenes to the Yankees “this year,” presumably meaning during this season.

That’s an extra toughie for everyone involved.
New York would certainly improve if it had Skenes in pinstripes. He’d help fill the injury vacating spots of Gerritt Cole and Luis Gil.
The Pirates probably want to hold Skenes for as long as possible.
But if the Pirates decide to move Skenes, the Yankees should do everything in their power to make this move happen.
