Yankees three-player trade idea would land two-time All-Star from AL East rival

The New York Yankees have been busy this offseason. Though they lost Juan Soto, they still managed to bring in Cody Bellinger, Max Fried, Devin Williams and Paul Goldschmidt, and they may not be done just yet.

New York could potentially look to trade right-hander Marcus Stroman. They already attempted to send him to the St. Louis Cardinals last year in exchange for Nolan Arenado.

While that didn’t work out, other teams may be willing to take Stroman off their hands. Zachary D. Rymer proposed the idea of New York sending him to the Baltimore Orioles for left-hander Gregory Soto.

“The best thing about the Yankees’ current bullpen is that it contains ample upside. The worst thing about it is that it lacks a left-hander.

This is where Soto would come in, and he wouldn’t necessarily have to work as a specialist,” Rymer wrote.

Soto did not have a good 2024 season. The two-time All-Star went 3-5 in his 66 appearances, posting a 4.42 ERA with the Orioles and Philadelphia Phillies. Baltimore acquired him from Philadelphia at the trade deadline.

Stroman also struggled in 2024, posting a 4.31 ERA in 29 starts and one relief appearance. But this trade would give the Yankees some much-needed bullpen help and allow the Orioles to add a starter to their mix after losing Corbin Burnes.

We’ll see if this ultimately comes to pass. New York already has Fried, Gerrit Cole and Luis Gil in its rotation heading into the 2025 season.
