The New York Yankees have been busy this offseason. They barely missed out on Juan Soto, so they pivoted to Paul Goldschmidt and Cody Bellinger and also brought in Max Fried and Devin Williams.
But they may not be done just yet. Earlier in the offseason, they declined a $5 million club option on left-hander Lou Trivino, who had been with the team since they acquired him in 2022 from the then-Oakland Athletics.
According to Pat Ragazzo of Sports Illustrated, Trivino isn’t giving up on pitching in 2025. The right-hander recently threw a bullpen session, and the Yankees were reportedly present.
“Free agent RHP Lou Trivino threw a bullpen session at Cressey Sports Performance in Palm Beach in front of scouts this morning Yankees, Dodgers, Guardians, Cubs, Giants, Reds, Royals were among those in attendance and teams came away impressed, I’m told Got his sinker up to 94 mph and is already drawing interest from several teams,” Ragazzo tweeted.
Trivino has not pitched since 2022. Injuries kept him out for 2023 and 2024. But he clearly isn’t giving up on pitching again.
The Yankees have made several moves this offseason, but they may not be done just yet, and Trivino could certainly boost their bullpen as they try to get back to the World Series in 2025.
For his career, the 33-year-old right-hander is 21-25 and owns a 3.86 ERA over 285 appearances, including a start. He has also notched 37 saves in his career.
The Yankees might be smart to give him a look as they attempt to make a deeper run. We’ll see if they make him an offer.
