Yankees predicted to sign All-Star southpaw to pair with Tim Hill

The New York Yankees signed Tim Hill to bring a reliable left-handed pitcher to their bullpen. However, they could look to bring in another southpaw as well.

Hill signed a one-year, $2.85 million deal with a club option for 2026. While making predictions for the remaining free agents, Bleacher Report’s Kerry Miller predicted that the Yankees would sign Matt Moore to join Hill in the bullpen. Like Hill, Moore would be an inexpensive addition.

“Moore was great in his first two seasons as a full-time reliever, posting a 2.20 ERA between the 2022 and 2023 campaigns,” wrote Miller. “He had a couple of implosions last year, though, and struggled to keep the ball in the park, allowing 2.0 HR/9. Nevertheless, he’s probably the best left-handed reliever left on the board, which is something the Yankees didn’t have any of prior to re-signing Tim Hill on Tuesday.”

Spotrac projects Moore to sign a one-year, $3.4 million deal in free agency. Last season he had a 5.03 ERA with the Angels. However, his ERA in the previous two seasons was stellar. Moore is a 13-year Major League Baseball veteran and could give the Yankees another lefty to deploy in the middle innings.

The Yankees were unable to add any premier lefties like Tanner Scott. However, signing Moore and Hill would be a decent consolation prize. The Yankees made a huge addition to their bullpen by trading for Devin Williams. They must ensure they have the pieces to get the ball to him in the ninth inning.
