Yankees’ Paul Goldschmidt turns back clock in magical start to season

Paul Goldschmidt has finished in the top-3 of the MVP voting on four occasions, including winning the award in the National League with the Cardinals in 2022.

No one necessarily expected that Goldy would get anywhere near those heights with the Yankees this season, now aged 37 in his first year in the Bronx.

Goldschmidt probably won’t win the award, not playing on the same team as that Aaron Judge guy.

But could he finish in the top-3?

Certainly, he’s started the season like someone who is capable of that.

After Friday night’s Yankees win, Goldschmidt is batting .361 this season with a .906 OPS and 16 RBI.

Goldschmidt launched an opposite-field home run, his third of the season.

Goldy made his hay early this season by hitting so many singles that he actually led the league in that category.

But now he’s getting his power stroke going, too, and it’s trouble for opposing pitchers.

Prime Goldschmidt, mostly in Arizona but then revived in St. Louis, was one of the game’s purest hitters, capable of average and power in equal measure.

That guy went away the last couple seasons, including a .245 average in 2024.

But Goldschmidt has found himself again, turning back the clock in a magical start to the 2025 season that has now lasted more than a month.

Goldschmidt has made the pinstripes look very, very good, and the Yankees are hoping he’s able to keep it up.
