Yankees’ Jazz Chisholm Jr. sends message to ‘idiot’ fans amid torpedo bat controversy

“Torpedo bats” have taken Major League Baseball by storm, thanks to the New York Yankees’ offensive explosion this past weekend.

As the Yankees clubbed 15 home runs in their three-game sweep of the Milwaukee Brewers, the internet was abuzz over the new style of bats several Yankees players were seen using. The torpedo design shifts weight away from the end of the bat and into the sweet spot, giving it the look of a bowling pin and putting more mass behind the barrel at the point of contact.

The idea that the Yankees are somehow “cheating” with the new bat style has been outlandish from the beginning. Other teams have known about their existence for months, and instances of other players using the bats around MLB were quickly pointed out on Sunday.

But sometimes, it takes a chirp from a star player for fans to really get the message. And Yankees second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. is never shy to mix it up with the fans on social media.

On Monday, Chisholm took to X (formerly Twitter) to explain the situation to those confused about the legality of the torpedo bats, using the word “idiot” prominently to describe anyone still railing against the Yankees.

“Okay explanation the barrel is bigger and within mlb regulation!” Chisholm wrote. For the idiots that say it’s moved to the label you’re an idiot! Nobody is trying to get jammed you just move the wood from the parts you don’t use to the parts you do! You’re welcome no more stress for y’all!”

Chisholm had three of the Yankees’ home runs, and hitters using the torpedo bats had nine of the 15 overall, coming from five different players. Giancarlo Stanton, who is on the injured list, was an early adopter of the technology, using the torpedo bat to hit seven home runs in 14 playoff games last October.

Reigning Most Valuable Player Aaron Judge, however, is still using a more traditional design.

Innovations in offense should be welcome in MLB right now, and to reiterate, the Yankees are fully complying with existing bat regulations. Whatever sort of wood they’re swinging, they’ll be a dangerous World Series contender if they keep up this torrid pace.
