Yankees’ Jazz Chisholm Jr. breaks silence on surprise position change

The New York Yankees came into the season with Jazz Chisholm Jr. playing second base. However, he suffered an oblique strain that landed him on the injured list.

While Chisholm was on the injured list, the Yankees’ third baseman, Oswaldo Cabrera, suffered an ankle injury that will likely keep him out for the rest of the year. With Chisholm out, Jorbit Vivas and DJ LeMahieu have been manning second base, but the Yankees need more help at third base.

As a result, the Yankees had Chisholm play third base during his first rehab game with the Somerset Patriots. Chisholm went 2-for-3 and drew a walk. He spoke on the team’s decision to move him back to third base after the game.

“I mean that’s what I’ve heard so far,” Chisholm said if he expects to continue playing third base in the big leagues. “He gave me the choice, but told me he wanted me at third base. I’m a team guy. I’m here to win a ring. I’m not here to fight over positions. We’ve got some of the best players in the world on our team. We definitely got the best player in the world on our team. I’m definitely not the one to be out here fighting for positions.”

Chisholm played third base for the Yankees last year when they acquired him from the Miami Marlins. However, he was expected to play second base this year. However, injuries have clearly changed things for him and the Yankees.

Chisholm was hitting .181 before his injury, but he had a .721 OPS and seven home runs. He obviously needs to be swinging the bat better, but his arrival at third base could give the Yankees’ offense a boost. Even though he was struggling at the plate, he brings more offense than Oswald Peraza currently does from third base.
