Yankees icon offers grim assessment of club’s World Series chances

Are the New York Yankees under pressure to make big changes at the trade deadline?

Vibes are down in New York after the Yanks took an 18-2 pummeling from the bats of the defending World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium on Saturday night.

The Yankees marched into Los Angeles hoping to make a statement after losing the 2024 World Series to the Dodgers, but the opposite has happened.

In a 162-game season, one game should not mean too much. But in this case, some Yankees observers viewed Saturday (and New York’s loss to LA on Friday) as a sign that these two teams are not on the same level.

One Yankees legend bluntly declared that the Dodgers are superior to the Yankees. The icon in question? Derek Jeter. You may have heard of him.

Per a new report from Newark Star Ledger’s Bob Klapisch, Jeter had some thoughts on the Yankees-Dodgers weekend.

“The National League is superior to the American League right now,” Jeter said, per Klapisch.

“You never know what’s going to happen at the trade deadline, it might not be the same two teams once we get into August and September, but as it stands now, the Dodgers have a better team.”

Jeter’s assessment is even more depressing for Yankees fans when considering that the Dodgers are missing more than a dozen pitchers right now due to injury.

If the Yanks aren’t as good as a severely decimated Dodgers roster, what hopes do they really have in October?

If Jeter’s perspective is accurate, New York’s GM Brian Cashman has some serious work to do before the July 31 Major League Baseball trade deadline.
