The San Francisco Giants have already made one huge trade, acquiring Red Sox star Rafael Devers.
Could they go back to the AL East for more?
That’s the suggestion of MLB writer Esteban Quinones. He suggests a deal with the Yankees.
Here’s the proposed Quinones trade:
- Yankees get: Matt Chapman
- Giants get: Jasson Dominguez, Everson Pereira, Ian Hamilton
Chapman is one of the best defensive third basemen in baseball and in the midst of a $151 million contract through 2030. He is currently on the IL but shouldn’t be out long.
Dominguez, at 22, is a former top prospect who has shown flashes of his potential at the MLB level but hasn’t found consistency yet.
Pereira is a strong infield prospect, and Hamilton is a future MLB right-handed pitcher.

The thinking here might be that trading away Chapman would allow the Giants to play Devers at third base, but that wouldn’t be a great reason to make a trade. Devers is a below-average defensive third baseman while Chapman is one of the best ever at the hot corner.
Dominguez also would come with plenty of risk.
This probably would hinge on how the Giants feel about Pereira.
But in reality, San Francisco just made a huge deal to make its MLB team stronger. It seems unlikely they’d want to downgrade at the big league level so soon after.
The Yankees probably could go for this, because they need the third base help.
It’s an intriguing proposal, but if a deal like this actually happened, the final structure would probably have to look a bit different.
