After waiting months for the New York Yankees to return to the field, Opening Day is finally here. However, things aren’t as positive as they typically are on Opening Day for a Yankees team with World Series aspirations.
Unfortunately, the Yankees have dealt with multiple injuries on the mound, and until they make a trade for an ace-caliber arm, it’s tough to see the Yankees find the success that many predicted them to find just a few months ago.
However, according to a recent report from Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, their top trade target, Sandy Alcantara, is expected to be traded before the deadline, which is great news for New York.
“With so many races projected to be close, the deadline should again play a major role in determining the playoff qualifiers. Alcántara, the Miami Marlins’ ace, soon will be a walking trade rumor, a transaction waiting to happen…
“And the Marlins, bless their payroll-slashing hearts, are virtually certain to move him, even if it puts them at further risk of a grievance by the Players Association,” Rosenthal wrote.
As Rosenthal touched on, the Miami Marlins are content with moving on from Alcantara, no matter the backlash they face from Major League Baseball.

The Yankees have to be careful, however, as the Marlins could be looking for a massive prospect haul that New York might not have.
While the Yankees have the prospects to make a trade for a starter of his caliber, there’s a chance another team around the league could be willing to move on from better prospects than what the Yankees have.
Most importantly, he’s available if the Yankees want him, and that’s what matters for now.
