Yankees’ Aaron Judge’s batting average reaches near-impossible number involving today’s date

As Aaron Judge pulled into third base with an RBI triple on Wednesday in Cleveland, he was standing in pretty much the most rarefied air in baseball.

At that exact moment, Judge’s season batting average was .424.

Wednesday’s date is April 23, 4/23.

Judge was hitting a higher batting average than the day’s date. It’s nearly impossible to do that any further into the season than this.

Sadly, Judge ended the day batting .415. But conceptually, the idea of going back above the given day’s date is alive for a few more days.

Once May comes and any batting average would have to be above .500, it’s pretty much out of play.

It’s amazing that Judge is hitting this well from an average perspective, but not shocking.

He might be the greatest right-handed hitter in baseball history.

Last season, Judge hit .322 to go with his 58 homers and 144 RBI, so it’s certainly not an unheard of possibility.

For him to hit .400 for the whole season would be one of the greatest accomplishments in baseball history.

But even some regression would still allow Judge a chance at besting that career-high .322.

No. 99 is as locked in as they come. And a 2-for-4 day in the Yankees’ next game would allow him to move back above the day’s date, at least for a little while, with the best batting average in baseball.
