Yankees’ Aaron Judge pulls up to Yogi Berra in New York franchise record book

Yogi Berra is known mostly for his winning on the field, and for his fun phrases off the field.

He also was quite the ballplayer, though, and he’s got some legendary statistics to go with all the World Series rings.

One of those numbers: 358.

That’s the amount of home runs the all-time great catcher hit in his wonderful career.

And now right on his tail: Aaron Judge.

Judge is up to 357 home runs and counting. His next one will tie Berra for fifth place in Yankees history.

The 6-foot-7 slugger currently sits alone in 95th place in MLB history with his 357 homers. His latest blast broke a tie with Joey Votto.

Berra is one of three players to have hit 358 home runs in Major League Baseball. Carlos Lee did it, too. And active slugger Bryce Harper is at 358 and counting.

Judge got his MLB career started late, so chasing down the likes of Babe Ruth and the other top sluggers in league history seems unlikely.

But season for season, he’s been about as prolific as anyone. And it surely won’t be long until he has tied Berra and then passed him.

The Yankees will take all the home runs Judge can give them. The perennial MVP contender is still looking for his first ring. That’s a Berra footstep that Judge would happily follow in.
