After the win, Alonso reveals how satisfied he was with the players and the team’s performance in their victory against Real Oviedo. When asked about the big decision to bench Vinicius Jr. from the start, Alonso responded positively about the player and the rest of the team.
Many view his words as a way to shut down rumors surrounding some players in the squad, like Vinicius Jr. and Rodrygo.
Xabi Alonso Wants All Players For This Season
In response to why he benched Vinicius Jr., Alonso says that these decisions are specific to certain games, and it will be like that for the rest of the season.
The Spanish head coach assures that every player in the squad is important, which gives assurance to players like Rodrygo, who have not been playing much since Alonso’s arrival this summer.
Xabi Alonso: “We need everyone. Those that start, those that start from the bench, and there will be a lot of games for everyone…We have 25 players in the squad, and I will try to get the best out of all of them. Vini was important today, and I intend for everyone to contribute and be ready to play. This is our motto throughout the year.”
Mbappe was the man of the match as he scored a brace for Real Madrid and is currently the top goalscorer in the league with three goals in two games. Vinicius Jr. scored a goal and provided an assist in 31 minutes.
