Why was Wyndham Clark banned from Oakmont?

Clark was banned from Oakmont because he damaged his locker during the U.S. Open.

Clark was frustrated after missing the cut at the course, per reports. This year’s cut at the difficult course was 7-over, and Clark missed the cut by bogeying on the last hole and shooting an 8-over in the first two rounds of the tournament.

Clark damaged multiple lockers at Oakmont, and photos of the damage surfaced on social media after his actions.

Days after the U.S. Open ended, Clark expressed regret and a desire to move on from the incident at Oakmont.

“I’ve had a lot of highs and lows in my career, especially this year some lows,” said Clark at the Travelers Championship.

“I made a mistake that I deeply regret. I’m very sorry for what happened. But I’d also like to move on, not only for myself but for Oakmont, for the USGA, and kind of focus on the rest of this year and things that come up.”

How can Wyndham Clark’s ban be lifted?

Oakmont Country Club president John Lynch outlined a series of actions Clark must take to have his ban lifted.

Per his terms, Clark must pay for damages, make a “meaningful contribution” to a charity selected by the country club’s board, and undergo some type of counseling or anger management therapy.

Oakmont’s next time playing host to the U.S. Open will be in 2033.
