Wrexham confirm signing ‘198 Premier League appearances’ veteran star

Wrexham have been a team known for making history as they become the first club in English football to secure three straight promotions.

The Welsh outfit are now in the Championship, but they have set their sights on Premier League promotion and therefore they have shown intent in the transfer market to strengthen their roster.

Wrexham have confirmed the signing of former Wolves centre-back Conor Coady from Leicester City.

The experienced England international who has featured in 198 Premier League appearances could be a great addition to Phil Parkinson’s team as he brings stability to the backline along with his exceptional leadership skills.

Wrexham reportedly have agreed to pay a £2m ($2.65m) transfer fee for the 32-year-old defender who featured in the Premier League for the Foxes last season albeit getting relegated.

Coady has signed a two-year contract with the Welsh club. He was delighted to sign for Wrexham as he told the official team website, “I’m over the moon. It’s a special day, I’ll be honest.

“We’ve all seen what the Club has done over the past few years and for me to join is really special and I can’t wait to meet the boys and get started.”

The England international was impressed by Wrexham’s pitch and their lofty ambitions of reaching the English top flight at the end of the upcoming campaign.

What does Conor Coady offer to this Wrexham side?

Coady comes with a lot of Premier League experience, and he has also featured 10 times for the England national team with his last appearance coming way back in 2022.

He was a part of the England team in the Euros 2020 and the 2022 World Cup so there’s hardly any doubt about his quality.

While he may not be the same player he was at Wolves a few years ago, Coady still brings value to this Wrexham team, who are new at the Championship level.

Apart from providing stability in defence and experience, Coady could be the calming presence in the dressing room that Parkinson may require if and when the chips are down.

Coady featured in 26 appearances last season for Leicester City across competitions with 22 of them coming in the Premier League. He also scored a couple of goals last season for the Foxes.

Overall, he becomes the seventh signing of the summer for Wrexham followed by Lewis O’Brien (Nottingham Forest), Liberato Cacace (Empoli), George Thomason (Bolton), Ryan Hardie (Plymouth), Danny Ward (Leicester City) and Josh Windass (Sheffield Wednesday).
