Would Suns’ Devin Booker shock league with trade request in coming years?

Devin Booker and the Phoenix Suns have one of the most interesting player and team relationships in the NBA.

Phoenix has been home to Booker for a decade now, and he has been with the team since he got drafted in 2015.

He has emerged as a star player, but with little to show for it. Now, Bleacher Report’s Dan Favale predicts he will request a trade due to the team’s unknown direction.

“The Suns have taken the league’s most inexplicably shortsighted view under team governor Mat Ishbia. That might be changing, if only because they have no other choice,” Favale said Thursday. “Maybe Booker is cool with going along for that wildly underwhelming ride or hopeful Phoenix will pull a gaggle of unicorns out from the terms and conditions of a United Wholesale Mortgage agreement.”

The Suns recently traded Kevin Durant to the Houston Rockets in exchange for younger talent, signaling that they are no longer aiming to compete for a championship.

“This complicity won’t last forever. And it certainly isn’t going to last as long as the Suns stay in the middle of nowhere.” Favale continued.

Phoenix peaked when they held a 2-0 lead over the Milwaukee Bucks in the 2021 Finals, but have fallen off a cliff since then.

Booker may have been holding onto that championship run since then, but reality should hit soon.

He has averaged over 24 points per game for the last eight years, and now the 28-year-old will have to ask himself how much he values winning a championship.
