Wizards predicted to draft both National Player of the Year candidates in 2025 NBA Draft

The Cooper Flagg vs. Johni Broome argument as far as National Player of the Year goes is a tricky one.

What’s less tricky is the non-debate over who will go earlier in the 2025 NBA Draft. That’s the Duke freshman Flagg, almost certainly the No. 1 overall pick.

But a fun narrative emerged Thursday with ESPN’s release of its newest mock draft. In it, Flagg isn’t the only possible player of the year to be drafted by the Washington Wizards. Broome, the Auburn star, is as well.

The Wizards are projected to end up with the No. 1 pick in the draft, and there ESPN has them doing the no-doubter and choosing Flagg.

“Flagg has solidified his standing as the consensus No. 1 pick in a phenomenal freshman season that saw him improve every facet of his game, helping him exceed the expectations with which he had when he entered college,” ESPN writes.

Flagg would join last year’s No. 2 overall pick, Alex Sarr, in a lanky, imposing frontcourt.

Broome is then projected to go off the board at No. 41 overall, midway through the second round, to the Wizards in a pick they acquired from the Phoenix Suns.

Nearly 23 years old on draft night, Broome has taken longer to develop into an NBA player than Flagg, but he’s got a chance to be an NBA rotation player, at least.

It’d certainly be cool for the two best players of this college basketball season to end up with the same NBA team.
