Injuries are piling up on the Dallas Mavericks’ roster, and with Luka Doncic no longer in town, they may need to get creative to continue winning games.
A left adductor strain could keep Anthony Davis out for at least a month, so the Mavs could look to the buyout market to bring in another scorer. Fadeaway World predicts that the Mavs will add Washington Wizards guard Malcolm Brogdon should he hit free agency.
Brogdon has never averaged less than 10 points in a season. Though his three-point percentage is down considerably this season, he is still shooting a respectable 37.1% on catch-and-shoot opportunities and is a member of the heralded 50/40/90 club.
When Dallas is fully healthy, he’ll have plenty of space to operate with Kyrie Irving and Anthony Davis out there to handle the scoring load.
Furthermore, his playmaking skills and ability to attack the rim off the dribble would help replace some of what Doncic brought to the team, especially when it comes to maximizing Daniel Gafford and Dereck Lively’s knack for playing above the rim.
Brogdon’s ability to defend against drives, close out on shooters, and play the passing lanes would also bolster the Mavs’ point-of-attack defense.
The Virginia product has been dealing with injuries over the last couple of seasons, though he had an impact off the bench for the Boston Celtics during their playoff run in 2023, averaging 11.9 points on 41.8% shooting.
In addition to his on-court brilliance, Brogdon’s veteran leadership could help keep the Mavericks’ locker room afloat during some of the most crucial games of the season.
