The Los Angeles Chargers are going through some tough circumstances at the tight end position this season, with the most recent blow coming when it was revealed that Will Dissly will miss some time.
The team could be looking to the 2025 NFL Draft to help alleviate this problem and that has led many draft analysts to project the team to pick one in the first round. Kyle Crabbs over at The 33rd Team is no exception as he has the Chargers taking one in his most recent mock draft, but it’s not the guy you think.
Colston Loveland has been mocked to the Chargers countless times already but in this draft, Crabbs has the Los Angeles Rams taking him with the No. 15 overall pick. Sitting at No. 22, the Chargers then take Penn State tight end Tyler Warren.
Here is what Crabbs had to say about his choice:
“The Chargers have a slew of draft needs, but a tight end prospect like Tyler Warren, who can actually serve as something of an offensive weapon in the passing game, is a dream come true for the bully ball the Chargers aspire to play. There are long-term vacancies in the Chargers’ tight end room, too — so this is a marriage of stylistic fit along with long-term opportunity. Warren is an emerging playmaker with the ball in his hands for the playoff-bound Penn State program.”
Though Loveland has the Jim Harbaugh connection, many analysts feel that Warren is actually the better prospect.
Tyler Warren taken by Chargers in first round of mock draft
Warren ranked ninth in the country with 88 receptions this season. He also had over 1,000 yards receiving and six touchdowns.
At 6-foot-6 and 257 pounds, he displays incredible athleticism and can catch everything thrown his way. He would immediately take the Chargers’ tight end position from a weakness to a strength and he has the ability to be a top-five tight end in the league at some point.
If the Chargers were to lose out on Loveland and really wanted a tight end in the first round, Warren would be an incredible backup plan.
