Vinicius Junior was once viewed as untouchable at Real Madrid, as a player at the heart of every plan the club had for the next decade, but that may no longer be the case.
What started as quiet behind the scenes planning for a long-term contract renewal has turned into lengthy delays and complete silence, with both parties not meeting or moving forward in recent months.
After a 2023/24 season where he led Real Madrid to UEFA Champions League success and finished 2nd in the Ballon d’Or, expectations inside the club were that an extension would be signed soon after.
Despite a verbal agreement reportedly being in place, the months that followed have been filled with frustration and disconnect.
The 2024/25 season only added to the uncertainty as Real Madrid failed to win any major trophy – the except UEFA Super Cup – despite signing Kylian Mbappe and having one of the most expensive attacking lineups in European football.
In February 2025, Vinicius’ agent Frederico Pena presented Real Madrid with his demands in an official meeting, according to AS, but there’s been no contact since then.

Vinicius earns around £330,187 [$444,032] per week, and with his contract until June 2027, Real Madrid do still have time – but they are not willing to wait forever.
As reported by El Debate, the club has made it clear if he doesn’t agree to an extension by June 2026, he will be sold before his final contract year.
The Spanish giants still believe Vinicius is part of their project and are not looking to force an exit, but want clarity and commitment before the final year of his contract.
The club has reportedly already turned down an offer from Saudi Arabia, but renewed interest – worth around €350m [$407m] – could return if contract renewal talks don’t progress.
Will PSG sign Vinicius Junior?
While Saudi Arabia’s interest in Vinicius continues to grow, PSG have distanced themselves from any possible move.
According to Onda Cero [Via Tribuna], PSG will not consider signing Vinicius Junior while Luis Enrique remains in charge of the team.
Multiple sources close to the club say the Spaniard is not interested in building around high-profile stars who require freedom in the final third.
His tactical philosophy is focused on discipline, team structure, and clearly defined roles, which does not suit a player like Vinicius who relies heavily on instinct, isolation play and improvisation.
