The Minnesota Wild’s contract negotiations with Kirill Kaprizov and Marco Rossi really aren’t the same, but they’re both important.
And right now, there’s not much good news to provide.
Wild GM Bill Guerin spoke with RG in a new story, and had this to say:
“The talks have been pretty consistent, and I’ve been happy with them… I don’t like to put really anything out in the public when it comes to negotiations, but no, there’s no real updates.”
Rossi is a restricted free agent, so his contract is a little more pressing and the one that could use an update sooner rather than later.
There were trade rumors surrounding Rossi earlier in the offseason, but nothing has come to fruition, at least so far.
Earlier reports indicated that Rossi and the Wild weren’t even actively engaged in contract talks. If that hasn’t changed, that’s not ideal.
Kaprizov won’t be a free agent until after the 2025-26 season, but he’s also a pressing case because of his overall talent.
It’s likely that, if Kaprizov signs an eight-year deal, he’ll be looking at more than $100 million in total value. That’s a big deal, whether it ends up being in Minnesota or elsewhere.
There isn’t a lot of impetus to get anything done yet. Maybe the arrival of training camp will add urgency, especially to the Rossi negotiations. And maybe if the Wild can get one deal done, it would spur action in the other.
But for now, the future for two of Minnesota’s top forwards is a bit uncertain, and that’s not an ideal place to be for Wild fans.
