Wrexham’s remarkable rise under Hollywood co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney has been nothing short of a fairytale.
Since taking over the club in 2021, the duo has led Wrexham from the National League to League One, and they are now eyeing a spot in the Championship.
But as the club gets closer to the top tiers of English football, questions are being raised about whether the owners can keep up with the financial demands of the journey.

Is Wrexham’s Premier League dream at risk?
Reynolds and McElhenney have made no secret of their ultimate goal — bringing Wrexham to the Premier League.
However, their combined net worth of around $400 million may not be enough to sustain the club at that level.
Competing in the lower leagues is one thing, but battling against billionaires in England’s top division is an entirely different challenge.
Former Premier League striker Darren Bent expressed his concerns about the club’s future under the Hollywood duo.
Speaking on talkSPORT, he said, “I know they’re worth loads, like 400 million, but when does that become not enough? If they get to the Championship, then all of a sudden, 400 million is still doable, but in the Premier League, it’s nothing. I hope they don’t sell after getting them all the way up because how are they going to survive without them?”
Andy Goldstein — the TalkSPORT host — also weighed in, pointing out that football ownership is ultimately about profit.
“It’s all about profit. How much did they buy Wrexham for? I’m guessing it’s nowhere near the amount it’s worth now if they get into the Championship. If they make 300 million each over five years, then I could see it happening.”
Despite these concerns, Reynolds and McElhenney have maintained their long-term commitment to Wrexham.
However, the financial realities of English football suggest they may need additional investors to compete at the highest level.
The Allyn family has already come on board to provide financial support, ensuring the club remains competitive in League One and possibly beyond.
For now, Wrexham fans remain hopeful that their Hollywood owners will continue the journey. But as the stakes get higher, the pressure to sell could become a real concern.
