Why was Hawks vs. Rockets postponed?

The NBA announced that Saturday’s game between the Hawks and Rockets is postponed due to icy conditions in Atlanta. Atlanta and Houston were supposed to tip-off at 3:00 p.m. ET at State Farm Arena.

The league consulted with local officials to determine that the “sever weather and hazardous icy conditions” are too dangerous to hold the game. Additionally, the league has not yet announced a make-up date.

The Hawks are now off until Tuesday, when Atlanta is set to host the Suns. Meanwhile. the Rockets will head back home to play the Grizzlies on Monday.

This game is just the latest that the league had to postpone due to extreme weather conditions, as the NBA had to move several Lakers and Clippers games amid the wildfires in Los Angeles.

Atlanta snowstorm

According to the National Weather Service, Atlanta got 2.1 inches of snow on Friday. That was then followed by some rain and sleet, which froze overnight as temperatures dropped to the low 20s.

Therefore, the NBA postponed Hawks-Rockets to keep everyone safe and allow for the conditions to improve. Temperatures in the city are expected to reach the mid-30s on Saturday, and then should warm up even more before the Hawks’ next game on Tuesday.
