It’s been said that history repeats itself. This spring, the Golden State Warriors sure hope that’s true.
Steph Curry hit his 4,000th career 3-pointer on Thursday night, an astonishing total that just adds one more exclamation point to the career of the greatest shooter in NBA history. And if his previous round-number, milestone 3-pointers are any indication, Curry might have another exclamation point yet to come.
Here’s how the omen breaks down, as pointed out by ClutchPoints:
- In 2014, Curry hit his 1,000th 3-pointer, and the Warriors won the NBA title
- In 2017, Curry hit his 2,000th 3-pointer, and the Warriors won the NBA title
- In 2021, Curry hit his 3,000th 3-pointer, and the Warriors won the NBA title
That’s a pattern to be sure, although whether there’s a correlation is probably only up to the universe and destiny to decide.

Golden State and Curry sure are cooking of late, having won 12 of their last 14 games. The trade deadline acquisition of Jimmy Butler appears to have energized the entire Warriors team.
Things are going so well that in Curry’s milestone game, he scored a pedestrian 11 points and Golden State still went on to win 130-104.
On the season, Curry is averaging 24.3 points and 6.1 assists per game while making 4.4 3s a night and shooting 93.6 percent from the foul line.
If he and Butler and their teammates all keep this up, Draymond Green’s proclamation at All-Star Weekend that the Warriors will be NBA champions might just in fact come to fruition.
