Why Steelers legend Terry Bradshaw said Aaron Rodgers should ‘chew bark’ instead of signing with Pittsburgh

The Aaron Rodgers wait continues, as the NFL world waits for the quarterback’s decision on whether to sign with the Steelers.

It appears that Rodgers is delaying his decision until after OTAs, as the Steelers are currently in the midst of their voluntary offseason activities. However, one NFL analyst is discouraged that Pittsburgh is waiting for Rodgers to make a decision this late in the season.

That would be Terry Bradshaw, the Fox personality and legendary former Steelers quarterback. Bradshaw went on a local Pittsburgh radio show to criticize Rodgers and the Steelers for allowing the quarterback’s decision to linger late into the offseason.

The Steelers and Rodgers have been destined to team up ever since the NFL Draft, when Pittsburgh passed on taking a quarterback until the sixth round. Currently, veteran quarterback Mason Rudolph is atop the team’s quarterback depth chart.

However, despite the Steelers’ lack of options at the position, Bradshaw would prefer that Pittsburgh go in another direction. Here’s what Bradshaw said about Pittsburgh’s pursuit of Rodgers.

What did Terry Bradshaw say about Aaron Rodgers?

While appearing on Dan Hampton’s Morning Mayhem show on 103.7 The Buzz in Pittsburgh, Bradshaw took exception to the idea that the Steelers might sign Rodgers after offseason activities.

“That’s a joke,” Bradshaw said, via Steelers Depot. “That is to me just a joke. What are you going to do? Bring him in for one year? Are you kidding me?”

If Pittsburgh does sign Rodgers, it will likely be on a one-year deal as the 41-year-old is on the back end of his career. Therefore, the Steelers may view him as the best stopgap option available this option.

Instead, Bradshaw would like Rodgers to remain out west for the season instead of leading the Steelers.

“That guy needs to stay in California,” Bradshaw said. “Go somewhere and chew on bark. Whisper to the gods out there.”

While the Steelers have temporarily moved forward with Mason Rudolph and Will Howard on their quarterback depth chart, the expectation appears to be that the team will eventually sign Rodgers. Bradshaw agrees with that assumption, which is why he was so critical about the situation.

“I heard the same thing, Dan,” Bradshaw told Hampton after the radio host said he expects Rodgers to sign in Pittsburgh. “I just don’t want it.”

The 76-year-old Bradshaw played his entire NFL career with the Steelers, leading the team for 14 seasons between 1970-83. He was the 1978 MVP and won four Super Bowls with the organization, tied for the second-most championships by a quarterback in NFL history.
