Manchester United have their biggest match upcoming for the season with the Europa League final against Tottenham Hotspur at San Mames on May 21.
Man United are having another underwhelming campaign, currently ranking 16th in the Premier League table with two matches left. The Red Devils also got knocked out of the EFL Cup and the FA Cup, leaving the Europa League as their only shot at some success and silverware this season.
In contrast to their performances in the domestic league, United have done well in the Europa League so far, bagging huge wins in the quarter and semifinals.
Man United’s chances of claiming the Europa League title, by which they can also qualify for the Champions League next season, have brought back excitement for their fans. However, head coach Ruben Amorim believes the upcoming ‘final is not the biggest thing’ for the Red Devils.
Amorim also opined that his squad ‘should not play in the Champions League’ and explained why he bears that opinion.
What did Man United boss Ruben Amorim say?
While speaking to BBC Match of the Day after their 2-0 loss against West Ham United on Sunday, Amorim mentioned that even though all eyes are on the Europa League final, United need to focus on changing their ways to have better results.

The Portuguese manager dismissed the upcoming final as the ‘biggest focus’ and claimed that his squad should not be in the Champions League, but rather play in the Premier League to improve ‘one week at a time.’
“Everybody is focused on the final. The final is not the biggest thing in our football club. We need to change a lot of things. If we don’t change the way we play and perform and feel this urgency of winning every game, we should not play in the Champions League,” said Amorim.
“We should just stay in the Premier League and learn how to be competitive one week at a time. The biggest focus on our football club is to change a lot of things. It’s not just the final,” he concluded.
While Amorim is anticipated to have plans for his squad for next season, United have a match to win against Premier League rivals Tottenham in the Europa League final. Both clubs have faced each other on 191 occasions.
Overall, Man United have a good record against Tottenham, with 93 victories, as opposed to Spurs’ 52 wins, while the rest 46 matches ended in a draw.
