Why poor road form has Cowboys confused

The Dallas Cowboys have been an inconsistent football team through the first eight weeks, and their 3-4-1 record reflects that.

In a rather curious stat, Dallas is 2-1-0 at home but 1-4 on the road, and its last two road games have been blowouts: the 31-14 loss to the Chicago Bears and the 44-24 loss to the Denver Broncos.

So, what is the reason for the Cowboys wetting the bed on the road?

We don’t know, and Javonte Williams isn’t too sure either.

“I feel like whatever it is, the way that we play at home, we got to learn how to do that on the road,” Williams said. “I feel like at home, it’s like we got all the momentum, we do everything right, but on the road, it’s just something that we be missing. So, I don’t know what it is, but we just got to put it all together.”

Cowboys need to find form fast

With the Arizona Cardinals and then the Las Vegas Raiders next on the schedule, with a bye week in between, the Cowboys have a chance to build some momentum and to potentially halt the road game skid in Las Vegas.

The Cowboys’ offense has been top-drawer for most of the year, and the defense has been, well, less than that, so improvement has to come, and who knows, maybe the bye week will come at the right time for Brian Schottenheimer’s team.

Dallas playing poorly on the road is nothing new this season, but it was 5-3 on the road last year under Mike McCarthy.

Either way, Dallas knows it has a problem and it needs to be figured out soon because otherwise its poor road form, coupled with its leaky defense, will be a reason this team doesn’t go to the playoffs for the second consecutive season.
