Why Ohio State rookie Emeka Egbuka can save the Buccaneers’ WR depth chart and fantasy football drafters

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers knew they wanted Emeka Egbuka. They didn’t mess around with the No. 21 overall pick in April’s NFL Draft.

With the former Ohio State Buckeyes star WR on the board, the Bucs drafted Egbuka. It’s a pick that should pay dividends immediately.

Chris Godwin and Jalen McMillan are both out for the start of the season. That means behind Mike Evans, Egbuka is expected to be the top target for quarterback Baker Mayfield.

And his beyond-his-years ability and polish should set the Bucs up to be just fine.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR depth chart

Heading into Week 1, the Buccaneers’ healthy WR depth chart should look something like this:

  1. Mike Evans
  2. Emeka Egbuka
  3. Sterling Shepherd
  4. Tez Johnson
  5. Ryan Miller
  6. Kameron Johnson

The back half might be interchangeable depending on matchups and formations.

Emeka Egbuka fantasy outlook

Egbuka can be a fantasy star, maybe even as a rookie.

ESPN’s Matt Bowen wrote this over the weekend:

“With Godwin (ankle) out for the start of the season and McMillian on IR (neck) for at least the first four games, the door is open for the rookie Egbuka to emerge quickly as a target for Mayfield. A receiver with inside/outside flexibility, Egbuka is a smooth route runner who can get open and be available to the quarterback. Plus, he is competitive after the catch. Put him on your draft board.”

According to FantasyPros ADP data, Egbuka is currently being selected No. 38 out of wide receivers. That’s likely a FLEX pick or a bench spot, depending if your league starts two or three WRs.

Egbuka has the potential to finish the season in the top-25 among wideouts, so that’s great value. He’s definitely a player to target, someone who can deliver for you right out of the gates just like he’s expected to do for the Buccaneers.
