The New York Knicks won’t be at full strength on Friday night against the Boston Celtics.
While Karl Anthony Towns and Josh Hart could be a part of the franchise’s lineup if all goes well during the pregame, Mitchell Robinson won’t be active for the second straight game.
Why Mitchell Robinson isn’t playing tonight vs. the Celtics
Robinson is still nursing a left ankle injury, which will keep him as a spectator to begin the 2025-26 season.
It’s no secret that Robinson has been injury-prone with the Knicks lately. The former second-round pick missed most of the 2024-25 regular season to rehab two ankle procedures.
Robinson returned to action in late February and averaged 5.1 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks per game in 17 contests,
As an energetic 7-foot big man known for frequently giving the Knicks second-chance opportunities and protecting the rim adequately, Robinson was a valuable second-unit big man for New York in the postseason, recording 7.1 rebounds per game in 18 playoff outings.
In 2023-24, Robinson suffered a left ankle injury in late December and didn’t rejoin the Knicks until late March (he failed to finish the year due to the same setback).
It isn’t asinine to suggest that the Knicks need Robinson to avoid the injury bug to help them maximize their potential on both ends this season and beyond.
