That’s because the Dolphins’ RB2 behind starter De’Von Achane, rookie Ollie Gordon, came up with an apparent leg injury in the second quarter that leaves his status for the rest of the game against the Ravens in doubt.
So, why did the Dolphins decide to sit their 2024 fourth-round pick?
According to Omar Kelly of the Miami Herald, the Dolphins apparently preferred dressing wide receiver Tahj Washington over Wright.
“Guess going Tahj Washington over Jalen Wright turns out to be a massive mistake,” Kelly wrote.
Not surprising the Dolphins wanted an extra wideout with Tyreek Hill out for the season, but they probably shouldn’t have done it at the expense of a running back.
Nevertheless, it has been a strange season for Wright, who entered the campaign as the team’s favorite to be the top backup behind Achane, only to be jumped on the depth chart by Gordon.
As a result, Wright has only seen nine touches this season, all of which came in a blowout win over the Atlanta Falcons in Week 8.
Because he hasn’t been involved, there has been no shortage of speculation that the Dolphins could move Wright at the trade deadline.
We’ll have our answer by Tuesday, when the deadline passes at 4 p.m. ET.
