Liverpool’s summer spending plans have hit a snag — and it’s a big one.
The Reds saw their second offer for Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz turned down, even though it was worth a staggering €130 million.
That’s not pocket change, even in today’s football economy.
The 22-year-old attacking midfielder is one of Europe’s most exciting young players. After a stunning season in Germany, Wirtz is now top of Liverpool’s transfer list.
His ability to score and create chances has turned heads at Anfield, with Jurgen Klopp’s old club now hoping to bring him in as the team looks to evolve under new management.
But Bayer Leverkusen are not in the mood to sell for anything less.

What’s holding up the Florian Wirtz transfer deal?
As per reports, Leverkusen have set their asking price: €150 million. No discounts, no player swaps, no coupons.
Just cold, hard cash. And while Liverpool’s €130 million bid shows serious intent, it’s still €20 million short of the asking price.
According to German outlet BILD: “Bayer has rejected LFC’s latest offer… too little for Leverkusen.” Sky Deutschland also reports there’s no agreement yet, but talks are still active. Both clubs want a quick solution.
Wirtz, who has 16 goals and 15 assists this past season, is seen as the creative spark Liverpool desperately need. His Champions League form was even more impressive, earning five Man of the Match awards in just nine games.
But Leverkusen aren’t in a rush. The player’s contract runs until 2027, and with no financial pressure to sell, they’re playing this transfer window like seasoned pros. The ball, quite literally, is now in Liverpool’s court.
