The Best FIFA Football Awards were handed out at a gala dinner in Qatar on December 17, 2024 — one day before the Intercontinental Cup final match between Real Madrid and Pachuca.
Last year’s winners of the top prizes, Lionel Messi and Aitana Bonmati, were again among the nominees for the best male and female players of the past season. While Messi would fall short this time, with a Real Madrid superstar topping the list, Bonmati triumphed for a second straight year on the women’s side.
Carlo Ancelotti pipped Pep Guardiola for the men’s coach prize, while the famous Puskas Award for the best goal of the year was also given out to a Man United youngster. Starting in 2024, there was also be a separate award for the best goal in the women’s game — one named after Brazilian great Marta, and fittingly won by the legendary forward herself.
The Sporting News presents the final results from the awards ceremony in Doha below.
