
William Scull will soon be seeking to become the third person to defeat Canelo Alvarez in a fight.
On Saturday, May 3, it will be Scull lining up against Alvarez in the ring as a main event. The match will take place in Saudi Arabia, the first time that Alvarez has ever boxed outside of North America.
Scull and Alvarez are competing to become the men’s undisputed super middleweight champion.

Who is William Scull?
Scull, whose full name is William Scull Yero, is a Cuban boxer who has held the International Boxing Federation (IBF) super-middleweight title since 2024.
He first turned professional in 2016 and has since competed in 23 matches. Most recently, Scull defeated Russian boxer Vladimir Shishkin by decision in Falkensee, Germany, to claim the IBF super-middleweight title.
Scull stands at 5-1 and also has the nickname “El Indomable.”Â
Where is William Scull from?
Scull is from Matanzas, Cuba, which is around 56 miles east of the capital, Havana.
He now trains out of Berlin, Germany. Scull has fought in the U.S. just once, when he beat Sean Hemphill by decision in May 2024.

Alvarez is fighting Scull in an attempt to reclaim the IBF super middleweight title. Alvarez held the title previously, then was stripped of it because he didn’t fight Scull, his mandatory challenger.
Alvarez is now under a new deal with Riyadh Season, which is reportedly for five total fights. This is the first fight of the deal.
