Who is Mr. Irrelevant 2025? Meet Kobee Minor, the last pick in this year’s NFL Draft

While the media pays the most attention to who the first pick in the NFL Draft will be, someone is always going to be the last pick. The draft is a marathon, not a sprint. After nearly 15 hours of teams making selections, the seven rounds of the draft come to a close with one final selection. 

Originally, the last pick came and went and nobody really thought much of it. Then, Paul Salata decided that the final pick in the draft should be celebrated. It became an on-the-nose tradition, but now the final pick in the annual event is known as Mr. Irrelevant. The player is presented with a jersey with their draft pick number and the name “Mr. Irrelevant” on it.

The celebration has evolved and now there is an “Irrelevant Week” that consists of a week-long stay at Newport Beach, Calif., a trip to Disneyland, and a golf outing. While rare, there have been success stories with the final pick in the draft. San Francisco quarterback Brock Purdy and longtime kicker Ryan Succop were both the final players drafted in their respective drafts.

Who is Mr. Irrelevant 2025?

Memphis defensive back Kobee Minor was selected by the Patriots with the 257th pick. The 6-0, 190-pound corner bounced around college football, playing for three different teams. He started his collegiate career at Texas Tech in 2020. After three years, he transferred to Indiana in 2023. Minor transferred one final time, spending his last season in Memphis. 

In total, Minor played in 45 games and finished with 80 total tackles, seven tackles for loss, two sacks, 12 passes defended, and two forced fumbles. He did not have an interception during his college career.

What is Mr. Irrelevant?

“Mr. Irrelevant” is the title that is given to the final player selected in the NFL Draft.

The nickname originated in 1976 when Salata created a series of events known as “Irrelevant Week,” which celebrated the final pick of the draft. Salata himself announced the final selection of the draft every year until 2013, at which point his daughter took over.

“Irrelevant Week” is held yearly in Newport Beach, Calif. The new Mr. Irrelevant and his family get to spend a week there while touring Disneyland, attending media availabilities and participating in a roast during which advice is given to the newest member of the esteemed club.

The first Mr. Irrelevant was Dayton wide receiver Kelvin Kirk. He was selected by the Steelers with the 487th pick of the 17-round 1976 NFL Draft. The tradition has continued yearly in the 47 years since his selection.
