Who is Kyle Monangai? Bears rookie RB depth chart spot in spotlight with D’Andre Swift injury

The Chicago Bears didn’t change much with their RB depth chart this offseason.

The only running back they added to their roster was seventh-round draft pick Kyle Monangai, who they apparently trust to get the job done if called upon.

It comes into the spotlight in Week 3 as starting RB D’Andre Swift heads into Sunday with a questionable tag on the injury report.

If Monangai has to play, the 0-2 Bears will need him to come through against the Dallas Cowboys.

This is how the Bears’ backfield looks if healthy:

  1. D’Andre Swift
  2. Kyle Monangai
  3. Roschon Johnson

Monangai got seven carries in Week 2, proving him the direct backup to Swift.

Johnson was promising as a rookie two seasons ago, but he averaged less than three yards per carry in 2024 to knock him out of major future plans in Chicago.
