
Dayana Yastremska pulled off one the biggest upsets in Wimbledon, defeating two-time major-winner Coco Gauff in straight-sets during the first round on Tuesday.
Gauff was coming off a French Open title and was expected to make a deep run to try and win Wimbledon for the first time. However, Yastremska outplayed her, winning the first-set tiebreaker 7-6 then cruising in the second set, 6-1.

Yastremska is 25 years-old, and she has been playing professional tennis for about a decade, giving her a wealth of experience without a ton of major success so far. She has three career WTA wins but has not had a ton of success in majors, reaching the quarterfinal round just once in 19 tries.

Yastremska has just three career WTA wins, which all came in 2018 and 2019. Her first victory was in 2018, when she won the Hong Kong Tennis Open, and she followed that up with two victories in 2019, winning the Thailand Open and the Internationaux de Strasbourg.

Dayana Yastremska is the 42nd ranked player in the WTA, as she moved up a few spots thanks to her finalist finish two weekends ago. Yastremska’s highest ranking on tour was as the No. 21 player, which she reached in January of 2020, less than two years after her first three tour victories.
