The 2025 U.S. Open has been an opportunity for fans to get familiar with a few golfers who are making a name for themselves.

Among that group of risers is Carlos Ortiz, a LIV golfer who surged into contention with an impressive showing during Day 3 at Oakmont. There’s a ways to go, but Ortiz has already done plenty to make himself known.

Who is Carlos Ortiz?

Ortiz is a Mexican professional golfer who has played on the PGA Tour and the Web.com Tour, and currently plays in the LIV Golf League.

He qualified for the 2025 U.S. Open at the Dallas qualifier in May, posting rounds of 66-68 to tie for fourth at an event where the top seven finishers would qualify. Through the first two days at Oakmont, Ortiz posted a score of 3-over but surged during Day 3 to move near the top of the leaderboard and place himself in position to come out on top.

Ortiz entered the tournament in search of his second-ever PGA Tour win and his first in over five years.

Where is Carlos Ortiz from?

Ortiz was born and raised in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. He played collegiately at the University of North Texas before turning pro in 2013.

After attending college in Dallas, Ortiz still lists that as his residence.

Ortiz’s lone PGA Tour win came in November 2020 when he captured the title at the Vivint Houston Open. He won the event by two strokes, shooting 13-under.
