Who are the Denver Broncos’ captains for 2025? Team newcomer highlights the list

The Denver Broncos will open their 2025 season on Sunday against the Tennessee Titans and the team has announced seven captains for the year.

The team kept it simple by naming three from the offense, three from the defense and one on special teams.

Bo Nix was an obvious choice as one of the captains. Entering his second year as the team’s starter, he will have a chance to become one of the top quarterbacks in the league this season. Courtland Sutton and Quinn Meinerz joined him on the offensive side of the ball.

On defense, the Broncos turned to inside linebacker Alex Singleton. Despite missing most of the 2024 season after tearing his ACL, the Broncos still see Singleton as one of the team leaders.

From the defensive line, D.J. Jones was given team captain status and then the team chose one of its new players, safety Talanoa Hufanga. The Broncos clearly think highly of their free-agent signing and are hoping he can return to his 2022 form when he was fast becoming one of the best safeties in the league.

Finally, kicker Wil Lutz was chosen as a captain. Entering his third season with the team, he’s been one of the most reliable kickers in the league.

Here was what Bryan Toporek of Bleacher Report had to say about the Broncos’ choices:

“The Broncos kept it simple by going with three captains on offense, three captains on defense and one on special teams. Six of their seven captains this year were also captains in 2024.

The one exception is Jones, who spent the first five years of his NFL career with the San Francisco 49ers before landing in Denver ahead of the 2022 campaign. Jones signed a three-year, $39 million extension with the Broncos in March and added a captain’s patch to his jersey six months later.”
