The Chicago White Sox are in for another rocky season. Last year, they lost 121 games and set the all-time record for losses in a single season.
They have one player in particular who is going to garner a lot of trade interest over the next five months. Luis Robert Jr. is having a strong spring and is essentially boosting his stock months before the trade deadline.
However, when asked about the trade rumors and his awareness of what is happening, Robert gave a simple response.
“Yes, I know. I know that especially right now, a bunch of other teams are looking at me,” Robert said through interpreter Billy Russo. “It’s a possibility. I know that there’s a possibility there.”
Robert doesn’t seem to be too worried about the trade rumors at the moment, and is instead focused on what he can do to improve in 2025.
Last year was a disappointing year for the slugger. He hit just .224/.278/.379 with 14 home runs, 35 RBI and a poor .657 OPS, though he did still steal 23 bases.
But Robert has a Silver Slugger Award, a Gold Glove and an All-Star nod to his name and he isn’t far removed from a 38-homer, 80-RBI season in 2023.
If he can return to his 2023 form, he’ll certainly boost his stock, and contending teams will gravitate towards him as the trade deadline approaches.
For now, though, Robert isn’t worried about it and is instead worrying about bouncing back in 2025. The White Sox aren’t going to be in contention, but he could at the very least be a bright spot in the first half of the season and leading up to the trade deadline.
We’ll see what comes next for the White Sox slugger.
