White Sox legend Frank Thomas’ son announces college commitment as top recruit

They called Frank Thomas the Big Hurt.

Does that make his son the Little Hurt?

Someone at Auburn University can work on figuring that out. That’s where Frank Thomas III, the son of the Chicago White Sox legend and MLB Hall of Famer, just committed to play college baseball.

The White Sox great was a baseball and football player at Auburn. Now, his son will put his spikes on for the Tigers on the diamond.

Frank Thomas III plays his high school baseball at IMG Academy in Florida.

He doesn’t have everything in common with his dad. The new commit both bats and throws left-handed, unlike pops.

He rakes, though, just like dad.

His stats this spring for IMG Academy:

  • .544 average
  • 1.532 OPS
  • 5 home runs
  • 41 RBI
  • 39 runs
  • 15 steals

Thomas is ranked a top-50 recruit in his class by Perfect Game. Here are some highlights:

“I especially want to thank my parents for all the sacrifices they have made to get me where I am today,” Thomas III wrote on X.

He’s part of the Class of 2027, meaning he has two seasons of high school ball left before being draft eligible and potentially joining Auburn.
