A horrible incident occurred during the Arizona Diamondbacks 4-1 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday night.
All-Star second baseman Ketel Marte was in tears during a pitching change after a fan yelled a comment about Marte’s late mother.
Marte’s mother passed away in a car accident in the Dominican Republic in 2017. According to ESPN’s Jesse Rogers, the 22-year-old fan has been banned indefinitely.
Manager Torey Lovullo and shortstop Geraldo Perdomo were seen consoling Marte.
“Team personnel, including Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo, heard the comment and asked for the fan to be ejected. According to a source familiar with the situation, the fan was remorseful for his actions, admitting to his inappropriate comments,” wrote Rogers. “Marte declined comment after the game Tuesday. It’s not publicly known what the fan said to upset the 11-year veteran.”
Unfortunately, this kind of disgusting act has been happening in recent years and even happened earlier this season.

A similar situation happened in Cleveland involving a fan and Boston Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran. Rogers noted that a fan yelled comments toward Duran regarding his battle with mental health.
“In April, a fan in Cleveland yelled at Boston Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran after the player shared in a documentary that he had attempted suicide three years ago. The fan was ejected and banned from the ballpark after that incident as well.”
There is no room in sports for fans like this. People fan differently, but should never fan like this.
