A two-time medalist at the amateur level, Opetaia (26-0) is also a two-time IBF cruiserweight champion. The 29-year-old got stripped of the belt due to a controversial ruling by the IBF but won it back in 2024 against the same man he beat for it in 2022, Mairis Briedis.

The Sydney-born fighter is competing in Australia for the first time since beating Briedis in 2022. He has fought in the U.K. and Saudi Arabia, gaining international exposure. There is no place like home, and Opetaia is ready to put on a show in front of his loved ones.
“My family gives me strength,” Opetaia said via Boxing Scene. “Being around them gives me strength. It’s good, man. It’s good to be back here. I’m just pumped up, ready to go.
“It’s been a long time coming. We’re here now; job’s gotta get done. Let’s fight. I’ll celebrate when we win. At the moment it means nothing unless we win.”
Nyika (10-0) replaces Huseyin Cinkara, who was ruled out of the fight due to injury. The 2020 Olympic bronze medalist has won all but one of his fights via knockout. The New Zealander is a massive underdog, but Opetaia is not looking past him.
