Borussia Dortmund host Sporting CP in the second leg of the Champions League playoff match on Wednesday.
Former Champions League winners Dortmund are favourites to qualify for the Round of 16 after winning the first leg 3-0 at Sporting. It was Dortmund’s first win under new coach Niko Kovac who took over from Nuri Sahin in February.
Sahin’s departure preceded a poor run of form which saw Dortmund started the new year with four straight losses. Dortmund haven’t yet found their rhythm under Kovac and come into the match after losing 2-0 to bottom of the table VFL Bochum.
After a strong start to the Champions League season which saw them win three of their first four matches including a memorable 4-1 win over Manchester City, Sporting CP have failed to win any of their next five matches losing four and drawing one.

Sporting CP are without many key players including Hidemasa Morita, Daniel Braganca, Nuno Santos, Pedro Goncalves and Geny Catamo.
Viktor Gyokeres started on the bench in the first leg after struggling with a thigh injury. Dortmund vs. Sporting CP prediction
Despite their struggles in the Bundesliga, Dortmund have enjoyed a good Champions League campaign and missed out on a top-eight finish by just one point. The German side have a very good home record this season losing only three of their 15 matches at the Signal Iduna Park.
Sporting CP start as underdogs and will need a performance for the ages from star striker Viktor Gyokeres to overturn their three-goal deficit.
Prediction: Dortmund 3-1 Sporting CP
