World No. 2 Coco Gauff will look to take one step closer to her first French Open title when she faces local favorite Lois Boisson in the semifinal on Thursday.
The 2022 French Open finalist faced her toughest test of this year’s competition in the quarterfinal, when she took on compatriot and Australian Open champion Madison Keys. Despite dropping the first set to Keys (also her first of this year’s tournament), Gauff rallied back to win 6-7, 6-4, 6-1.
Her next opponent Boisson has surprised many en route her journey to the semifinal. With her home crowd behind her, the 22-year-old wildcard, who entered the tournament at World No 361, upset World No. 6 Mirra Andreeva 7-6, 6-3 victory to storm into the semifinal.
In doing so, she became the first female debutant to reach the French Open final four since Jennifer Capriati in 1990.
While odds are in Gauff’s favor, she cannot let her guard down against Boisson who has overcome all odds in the tournament so far. The Frenchwoman has already beaten two top-10 players — Andreeva and No 3 seed Jessica Pegula in the fourth round.
