Group B leaders Canada will look to book their spot in the quarterfinals of the CONCACAF Gold Cup when they host bottom-placed El Salvador in their last outing on Tuesday.
Canada started their CONCACAF Gold Cup tournament with a dominant 6-0 victory in their opening match against Honduras but then had to share their points in a 1-1 draw against Curacao in their second outing. After a draw in their previous outing, Canada is still not confirmed a spot in the quarterfinals of the tournament, but a win or even a draw would let them confirm their spot.
Jesse Marsch will be back on the field after serving a two-match suspension. As Les Rouges remains in red-hot form, Marsch will be pumped up to make his team qualify for knockouts while remaining unbeaten in the tournament. With four points, they are currently sitting at the top of Group B.
Meanwhile, El Salvador started their campaign with a goalless draw against Curacao but then fell 0-2 to Honduras in their second outing, also ending their five-match unbeaten streak across all the competitions. With their knockout qualifications hanging, a win over Canada can only keep their hopes alive for the quarterfinals. Hernan Gomez’s side’s last victory came against Trinidad and Tobago in July 2021, and since then they have failed to win a single match in this competition.
These two sides have faced each other two times in this competition, where Canada emerged victorious in 2009 and the second outing ended in a goalless draw in 2015.
